When the goods first arrive at the EU border, the customs duties and VAT need to be settled. Regime 42 was introduced as a customs procedure that enabled EU importers to obtain VAT exemption for goods that are arriving from outside of the EU into a member state. Those goods are then intended to travel into another EU member state – the state of destination.
In other words -The Regime 42 itself consists of 2 parts:
- The importation of freight from a non-EU State to a Member State 1, which is VAT exempt; and
- The network supply of goods being transported from Member State 1 to Member State 2, which is taxed at a 0% VAT rate.
NB : Regime 42 doesn’t remove customs procedures altogether. Shipments that are declared under procedure 42 are still subject to customs clearance and checks. This is something that our teams can help you to work out, so don’t panic!
